How to Add Testimonials to Squarespace
A useful testimonial helps a visitor understand a specific customer experience. Start with the quote and its context, then choose a display that keeps the words readable and the controls easy to use.
Start with a native testimonial section
Auto layouts can show text and images as lists, carousels, or banner slideshows. They remain editable in Squarespace. Read the current auto-layout guide.
- Edit the page, choose Add Section, and open Testimonials.
- Choose an auto layout marked with an information icon. Other layouts in that category may be ordinary block sections.
- Use Edit Content to replace demo items with approved quotes and attribution. Remove elements, such as images or buttons, that the display does not need.
- Under Design, choose the layout and inspect spacing, text size, and navigation on desktop and mobile.
Auto layouts do not provide autoplay. A simple list can be a better choice when every quote should be visible immediately. Use a carousel when saving space serves the page and visitors can easily reach the remaining items.
Prepare the evidence before the design
Keep the original wording, its source, the approved attribution, and the context of the work together. A short quote about a particular service is more useful than a broad claim with no explanation. Choose quotes that answer a real concern about your offer.
Do not invent a person, company, rating, or result to fill a design. A customer's comment is not proof that every buyer will get the same outcome. If you shorten a quote, preserve its meaning and any qualification that changes the claim.
Use the attribution the customer approved. An anonymous quote should be identified honestly instead of being assigned a fictional name. Only add a numeric rating when the customer actually provided that rating.
Keep the reading experience in the visitor's control
Manual navigation gives readers time to finish a quote. If a carousel rotates automatically, provide an obvious rotation control and stop movement when keyboard focus enters it. WAI also calls for named controls and useful slide labels. Read the carousel pattern.
Inspect the longest quote on a narrow screen. Check that the text wraps, attribution stays with the quote, and controls do not cover either one. Reach every item with the keyboard. A layout that looks polished on desktop can still make a long quote difficult to read on a phone.
Do not hide essential product details inside a rotating section. Pricing, eligibility, limitations, and the main next step should remain available in the page itself.
When a custom testimonial slider fits
The Testimonial Slider Generator creates a portable HTML display with one to 20 quotes, optional supplied ratings, three styles, and per-slider colors. It starts with empty customer content and manual navigation. Previous and Next remain available for multiple quotes; numbered navigation is optional.
Configuration and manual preview are free. Code export costs $11.99 once for personal use. Packs and commercial licenses have separate terms. Existing owners can sign in from the generator; resolve a license-check error before purchasing again.
Optional rotation includes Stop and Start controls. Keyboard focus stops it until the visitor explicitly restarts it. Hover and hidden tabs pause it temporarily. Reduced-motion preferences keep rotation off. A single quote stays static, and all quotes remain visible as a list if JavaScript does not run.
The export is maintained as code. It does not turn the quotes into native editable blocks, sync with Google reviews, or add review schema. Changes to the wording or settings require replacing the snippet.
Install and inspect the published result
Slider behavior requires JavaScript in Code blocks, currently available on Core, Plus, and Advanced. Check legacy-plan support before buying. Read Squarespace's Code block requirements.
- Enter the real quotes, attribution, optional context, and any supplied ratings. Review every item in the manual preview.
- Choose the style and controls. If you enable rotation, leave enough time for the longest quote to be read.
- Paste the licensed export into one HTML Code block with Display Source off. Replace an older copy when revising the content.
- Save and inspect the published page while signed out. Read every quote on narrow and wide screens and reach every control with the keyboard.
- For rotation, check Stop, Start, focus, hover, tab visibility, and reduced motion. Use Back and Forward to inspect the restored page.
- If you install multiple sliders, confirm that each controls only its own quotes. Check the page with JavaScript unavailable as well.
After installation, inspect the published page itself. Its surrounding theme and other scripts can affect the result, even when the generator preview looks right.
Measure a useful next step
Place relevant evidence near the service or offer it supports, followed by a clear way to learn more, inquire, or buy. Compare the page's completed inquiries and purchases with its visits. A slider advancing or a navigation button being clicked is not a conversion.
A visible rating is also not proof of search-result eligibility. This tool adds no structured review markup and makes no promise of search stars or rankings. Review the schema guide before making separate structured-data changes.
